Our students created cards to thank their instructors on Teachers’ Day as part of our Chinese culture curriculum. Every card was different, expressing the individual talents and sentiments of the students. They included artistic modalities such as drawings, calligraphy, and collages. Some were ornamented with cloth and beads, while others contained three-dimensional structures. The cards expressed the love and devotion the students have for their teachers.
Teachers’ Day dates back to the Han Dynasty, over 2,000 years ago. It fell on the birthday of Confucious, China’s best-known teacher and philosopher.
St. Stephen’s students were eager to share how much their teachers meant to them. Arcielin Uy of 4th grade said, “Teachers are our second parents at school and I would like to thank all my teachers for imparting wisdom and knowledge to us. They lead us to the right path and inspire us to be better people. Happy Teacher’s Day to all our beloved SSHS teachers!”
“Thank you for teaching me very well and taking care of me in school,” said 2nd grader Hannah Lim. When asked to represent the Student Council in the distribution of gifts Teachers’ Day gifts, Patricia Pataroque of 6th grade said, “It was fun going around giving red envelopes to the teachers.
You can see from the teachers’ faces their smiles and appreciation when they received them. I was assigned to the Early Childhood department and it brought back happy memories to meet my old teachers.”
“Teachers embody the school’s vision of being a lighthouse to the community. They are the beacons of light who guide and teach us towards the right path, so that we may grow in Christ and make a contribution to society,” said 10th grade student, Celine Chua.
