A men’s college basketball team consisting of NCAA Division 1 players from across America has been invited to come to the Philippines to serve on a mission here from July 24-August 5, 2014. They will compete in 7-8 meaningful high-level games designed to support and grow players, ignite fans, and generate club and community interest in the great game of basketball. They also will conduct multiple basketball camps for players and clinics for coaches and strength and conditioning clinics and trainings. Compassionate aid opportunities have also been planned for the team, including visits to children’s hospital and orphanage, and aids to typhoon victims.
St. Stephen’s High School has been a partner with most of their ministry projects in the past years through Mr. Lim Eng Peng (SSHS Athletic Director and Head of Gen. Services), who is also one of the Athletes in Action representative. This time, they held basketball games in our Elementary Gym with the Black Water Team which is a new team in the PBA, on July 31 and August 2, 2014. The players shared their personal testimonies during the half time of the games done in our school as well as at St. Stephen’s Parish on Aug. 3, 7:00 a.m. Worship Service. It’s a wonder how God can use the basketball teams to serve others in significant ways.
