Acquisition of New Science Equipment and Apparatuses

Science education is incomplete if it does not include opportunities to learn the different scientific processes. Classroom instruction coupled with varied laboratory experiences lead to enriching learning experiences. With this in mind, St. Stephen’s High School acquired new science equipment and apparatuses for the high school department this SY 2013-2014.

SSHS, through ScienceStar Corporation, sole Philippine distributor of PASCO products, purchased interfaces, multiple sensors, and equipment designed to meet the needs of the High School Science classes from Grade 7 to HS 4.

To fully maximize the use of these equipment, Science teachers underwent training with a PASCO trainer on May 28 and June 5, 2013 in the newly renovated HS Physics Laboratory, which was donated in loving memory of Mr. Tan Tay Cuan. Teachers were exposed to varied mix of demonstrations and hands-on activities that will definitely make their classes fun and enriching.

The benefits of having innovative science lab equipment are limitless. Besides the hands-on experiences in laboratory research and experimentation, students also learn how to make scientific arguments. Analyzing, verifying and reviewing information and constructing logical conclusions are a few of the skills acquired through lab experiences. These are valuable skills not exclusive to the “sciences” but to LIFE itself.
