3 Stephenians made it to the Top5 winners in the Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Singing Competition 2017

The Annual Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Singing Competition for Youth was held on June 24, 2017 at the auditorium of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

This was sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Philippines, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. in cooperation with Overseas Chinese Alumni Association of the Philippines, The Federation of Filipino Chinese Alumni Associations, and Association of Filipino- Chinese Schools in the Philippines, with Chinoy TV as media partner.

Twenty-three contestants from different schools went through this five hour of intense competition. After careful selection from a panel of professional judges, five outstanding singers were chosen. All the three contestants from St. Stephen’s High School made it to the Top 5 winners. They were Mary Joy Tiu, a grade 11 student, who won second place; and Wilber Jan Ong Ching and Miko Johnson Co both alumni of batch 2017, who won fourth and fifth place respectively. The school indeed shines brighter from the recent outstanding performance of the students, as it celebrates its 100 anniversary this year.

Incidentally, Mary Joy Tiu, will be representing the Philippines to compete with adolescents from all over the world at Beijing, from July 20 to August 8. She is the only Filipino this year to participate in the finals of the competition. To God be all the glory!
